The Speyer Cathedral located in southwestern Germany was built in 1030 AD and is the resting place of many emperors and kings, particularly of the Habsburg royalty. This medal was made for the 900th anniversary of the cathedral in c. 1930. The cathedral is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture in Germany and was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1981. Konrad II, Heinrich III and Heinrich IV were all rulers of the Salian dynasty who rose to become Holy Roman Emperors. This metal is a tribute to the men who were in power when this impressive cathedral was built.
