Ruling during the late 4th and early 3rd centuries BCE, Audolean played an important if not peripheral role as King of Paeonia during the Wars of the Diadochi. Audoleon came to power around 315 BCE and proved to be a capable ruler by successfully navigating the complex political landscape of the Hellenistic world. He maintained his kingdom's independence and played the Diadochi, against each other by skillfully balancing relationships with their various fledgling dynasties competing for supremacy. Audoleon is particularly noted for his alliance with Cassander, the Diadochi who controlled Macedonia, and he provided important military support during Cassander’s campaigns. He also maintained diplomatic relations with other Hellenistic powers. His reign appears to have brought stability and prosperity to Paeonia, while successfully preserving his kingdom's autonomy against the expansionist pressures from neighboring powers.
