This denarius belongs to Titus’ ninth tribunician year, struck during the first half of AD 80, a period marked by the emperor’s efforts to stabilize the Roman state following the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. The reverse type, a curule chair topped with a decorative triangular frame, emphasizes senatorial and consular authority while simultaneously celebrating Titus’ role as Princeps Senatus. Such designs, highlighting magistracies and ceremonial objects, echo Flavian propaganda that underscored continuity with Republican traditions even as imperial power consolidated. The artistry and fine preservation of this specimen make it a particularly attractive example of Titus’ short but historically significant reign.
