Luceria fell into Roman hands in c. 314 BC. From that moment forward it was an ardent supporter of Rome and even during the Second Punic War (218-201) became the home for the troops during the winter. The coinage of the area was made of bronze due to limited amount of silver and no gold whatsoever. This coin is a quatrunx which is a modern word meaning “four-ounce”. It was used to denote coins on a ten-ounce pound or nummus weight.
