The southern Italian town of Luceria settled by the Daunian people was an independent polity until the Samnite war. In 321 BC, as Rome’s republican armies marched south Luceria eventually fell. Several years later, by 314 BC, it had become a formal roman colony. Struck c. 211-200 BC, during the second Punic war, this type falls in the third period of Lucerian coinage.
