Cilicia is located in modern day southern Turkey. This coin is from an uncertain mint and could have been struck anytime within the 4th century BC. Ernst Babelon placed this type under the satrap Mazaios who lived around the time of Alexander the Great. Alexander was able to conquer the area and Mazaios pledged allegiance to him. There is an abundance of fractional coins from Cilicia which suggests a vibrant commercial community. Many of the types simply have gods/goddesses and animals that were worshiped in the various Greek city states.
